The Huffaker-Hughes Hope House is the charity supported by Maverick Region Porsche Club of America. The support has been in many different ways, from actual dollars, clothing, household items, toys, computers, baskets and such for special holidays, to some service hours. We encourage our members to interact with the shelter, by taking their donations. The staff welcomes our visits.

The Huffaker-Hughes Hope House, a home for victims of domestic violence was introduced to Maverick Region in 1993 by our member Lanean Hughes. She then began the duties as the Charity chairman, spearheading our many trips, contributions, raffles, and other means of raising funds for this worthy cause.

The Huffaker-Hughes Hope House is located in Mineral Wells, Texas and serves the people of 5 counties, along with the DFW area. Its inception was in 1983, by a group of volunteers, of whom some still serve on the volunteer board of directors. It is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board, and is staffed with trained personnel. Lisa Huffaker, a former board member now serves as the Administrator.

Hope had been housed in a 100 year old home since 1983, and the condition of the facility had deteriorated to the point where it could not be repaired. Maverick Region, along with other individuals and groups responded to the challenge to build a new shelter, beginning in 2005. The new 4,500 ft. Huffaker-Hughes Hope House was completed and in operation in December 2006 and was dedicated in January 2007.

Hope exists to eliminate domestic violence through intervention, offering shelter, counseling, support and education to promote the healing of abusive relationships, Maverick Region is proud to be a part of this program.
